Woodcarving with Brian Brubaker

Bird Carving – Plovers
Saturday and Sunday; April 16 & 17, 2005; 9AM to 5PM
$60 + materials

Brian opens the carving classes this season with an offering of several plovers. These shorebirds, with their simple body styles, offer an easy way to start carving birds. Carving in the “primitive” or “slick” mode, Brian will take the novice or intermediate carver from blank to finished bird. Using patterns, selecting wood, choosing tools, and finishing techniques will be stressed. Avian anatomy, population and habitat will also be discussed.

Beginners do not need to bring anything but their desire to learn. All materials, tools and equipment will be provided for a material fee of less than $30. If you have some tools, bring them. A limited number of tools and materials will be available for purchase. Arrangements will be made for lunches on both days, or, you may bring your own. This is a good opportunity to get a head start on Spring!

Carving Birds and Halloween Art
Saturday and Sunday; October 29 & 30, 2005; 9AM to 5PM

Basic hand-carving techniques, including gouge work, will be taught. Some power carving techniques will also be demonstrated.

As always, you don’t need to bring anything but your interest. All tools, equipment and materials are covered by the material fee of less than $30. Students who have tools are encouraged to bring them. A limited number of tools and materials will be available for purchase. Arrangements will be made for lunches on both days. You even get an extra hour of sleep, FREE, on Saturday night!
