A Special Presentation by CHARLENE JORGENSON
Of “Quilting From The Heartland”
(Charlene will also be teaching a quilting class at the Sawmill refer to our section regarding classes for more information)
On Saturday, August 18th at 1 pm, Charlene Jorgenson will be giving a presentation in the Verna Leith Theatre ($5 admission fee). Charlene's interest in quilting began 23 years ago and she immediately knew she had found a life long hobby.
Quilting can be very time consuming and with a business and family, her time was at a premium. This led her to begin experimenting with quicker and easier ways to create her quilts. There were not a lot of options for template patterns at this time, so she began designing her own. The first pattern was the Double Wedding Ring 11 years ago. Today her line includes over 80 template patterns. She has also designed many helpful quilting related products.
Shar has taught her techniques all over the world beginning at local guilds and community education and then on to the International Quilt Market in Houston and Europe. She teaches at quilt and craft shows around the world, and is the author of eight quilting books from her nationally syndicated television series. Her Series 500 book and Wheel of Mystery template set were winners of the PJF Product Excellence Award in their respective categories in 1996. Series 700 and the Quilters Starter Kit were finalists for the same award in 1998.
Shar is not a stranger to the camera, having produced over 104 quilting programs for PBS. She has also appeared as a guest on Kaye Woods Quilting for the 90's and Aleene's Creative Living. Quilting From The Heartland incorporates Shar's extensive teaching skills and real love for quilting. Viewers are excited by the new variations given to a craft hundreds of years old. In her more recent programs she is joined by her daughter and granddaughter to introduce quilting to future generations.
Since Shar's love of quilting grew from her own involvement in quilting as a hobby, she is particularly attuned to the needs of quilters at all levels. As a professional teacher, she has the skills which will allow the novice to comfortably complete quilt projects, while inspiring the advanced sewer with innovative and time savings ideas. Shar takes the mystique out of quilting and shares her enthusiasm with the viewer. Quilters all over the country love quilting along with Shar and Quilting From The Heartland. She's thrilled to be bringing her techniques to a broader audience through television.
