The Craft Markets at the Cook Forest Sawmill Center for the Arts are really "special". Some say that they represent the largest collection and display of handcrafted items to be found anywhere!! More than 500,000 visitors stop by every year to see these juried shops full of handcrafted treasures. Lynne Brubaker takes great pride in her job and works long, hard hours to present the work of more than 225 artisans who sell their work on a consignment basis.

Our markets are located about two miles apart and are easily accessible to Cook Forest visitors. The original Sawmill Craft Market (between the Verna Leith Sawmill Theatre and the Swimming Pool) is open on a seasonal basis from Saturday, May 13th, through Friday, October 15th, this year. This facility is open 7 days a week, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (to 8:00 p.m. on some theatre nights June-September). The Sawmill Craft Market Site II (formerly called the Museum), located on Breezemont Drive, is one mile from Route 36 between Leeper and Cooksburg which is a ten-minute drive from Site I. This market is open 7 days a week YEAR-ROUND from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you cannot visit our craft markets, visit our Internet Catalog on our website where you can order some of our beautiful items.

We encourage you to visit both of our markets while you are in the area. Both shops feature exquisite handcrafted items, but you will find most of the larger furniture pieces, paintings, and one-of-a-kind fine art objects at Craft Market Site II. This facility also houses "The Cherry Collection," which is a popular display of fine handcrafted work by local artisans who specialize in the wood of the black cherry trees grown in Western Pennsylvania.
These two markets are definitely a part of the non-profit status of the Sawmill Art Center, as 65% of every dollar spent goes back to the artisan. One can readily understand how the Sawmill is contributing to the economy of the area and helping to supplement many family incomes.
One of the mainstays in the everyday workings of the markets is our VOLUNTEERS. Without their continued support year-after-year, we would not be able to handle the volume of business that we do. We need more volunteers can you help this year?
With two big markets, we are always looking for new crafters new artisans who handcraft traditional or contemporary items in a variety of media. If you are an artist or craftsperson or know others who would like to sell their work on a consignment basis, please call Cindy Ban (814-744-9670) and make an appointment to get together. She will ask you to send photos of your work or to bring some of your items in to be juried, and you will be on your way to joining our select group of fine craftspersons.
