Opening to be announced
Sawmill Center for the Arts CHILDREN'S ARTS and CRAFTS at the NUTHOLE
From June 17 (Monday) thru August 9 (Friday), the Sawmill's arts and crafts program for children, the NUTHOLE, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Youngsters ages 6 to 14 are introduced to the world of arts and crafts at this educational program held at a rustic pavilion and old log cabin at the entrance to Ridge Campground (Cook Forest State Park's public campground) on Rte 36.
A nominal fee of $2.00 per child is charged to help defray expenses. No pre-registration is required. Parents are welcome to stay and participate with their child or leave children under the supervision of trained staff. Visiting artists, naturalists, Smokey Bear and Woodsy the Owl have been known to stop by for special programs. . . and usually, chipmunks and squirrels from the forest drop in to visit, too.
The Nuthole Supervisor extends an invitation to local and visiting youngsters. Craft projects for the week, often nature-oriented, are usually listed on the cabin door. Donations of arts & crafts supplies are always welcome … especially construction paper, yarn, magic markers, paints, brushes, glue, etc. Just stop by the Sawmill office if you have a question or a contribution.
